Steel Prophet was founded by Steve Kachinsky (g) and Gary Stocking (v) in Middleton, Connecticut in 1983. Harry Blackwell (d) came on board after borrowing a drum kit from his friend John Tarascio, who would ironically replace him after only a brief time. Wayne Faircloth (b) joined during that transition. Shortly thereafter, Stocking left, opening the slot for Dave Brooks (v), who came just as they were recording the track "In the Dream" for the 1986 World Metal Records' compilation Iron Tyrants Waging War.
